Beds: Enormous and draped in crisp white sheets. Very spacious suites and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the verdant Guindy National Reserve. Ample space for in-room yoga.
Breakfast: The exquisite buffet almost gives you cause to cast aside the à la carte menu. Almost. Reserve at least one breakfast for the Almond crusted French toast with berry compote, whipped cream and maple syrup. You can even things out with a freshly-made green juice. That said, we recommend you breakfast after a swim in the rooftop pool or yoga practice, not the other way around.
Where to practice yoga: The rooftop, behind the palms that line the pool, there’s a discreet, shaded spot. You’re outside and the panorama is arguably the most tranquil platform from which to view Chennai. The Park Hyatt Chennai provides the mats and also a teacher if you book in advance.
Unique WP factor: Well it hardly seems fair to omit reference to the actual pillows given they have their own menu here. And if you’re a Hyatt member, you’ll receive an email in advance asking for your preference, along with your newspaper of choice and any in-room treats. Plus, if you’re a lone female traveller, they’ll send a female member of staff to accompany the driver to pick you up from the airport and check you in on the way home.
Not many people know but.. the Park Hyatt Chennai’s main dining venue, The Flying Elephant, launched in 2013, is still one of the places in the city to see and be seen. The name was thought up one night over one too many carrotinis (yes that’s an orange carrot cocktail), inspired, not by folklore, but by the owner’s textile company logo – a plump elephant with massive wings.
