Beds: Large, simple white wood-frame beds with reasonably comfortable mattresses. Not luxurious, but good quality for Gili Trawangan (or Gili T, as it’s known locally). The vibe is hippy beach chic with an emphasis on the chic. It’s very pretty and totally instagrammable. Rooms of good proportions are housed in bright white and turquoise-painted chalets and the ensuite bathrooms are roofless for showering under the stars. Each chalet has a generous deck complete with hammocks and bean bags for daytime lounging.
Breakfast: Start with a refreshing coconut and follow it with banana and cinnamon apple porridge, pancakes, honey-glazed granola with fresh fruit, eggs any style or a more local dish of rice or noodles. It’s all delicious and beautifully presented. Portions aren’t enormous which is great in the heat, but if you’re hungry you could easily take two.
Best place to practice yoga: On the deck of your chalet or down on the beach 20 yards in front. The sunsets are spectacular and it doesn’t get too crowded even in high season.
Unique WP factor: Location, location, location. Le Pirate Beach Club is at the quieter end of the island so you can chill without the background beats of Gili T’s wild nightlife. Enormous beach hammocks tied up between trees – perfect for snoozing à deux.
