Isla Holbox, Mexico

Beds: Kingsize in all rooms (real kingsize), and those with balconies have hammocks for daytime snoozing. The rooms are light and bright and the decor is clean and simple. White-painted walls, terracotta floor tiles and wood-beam ceiling interiors are warmed with an occasional pop of colour – a turquoise hammock, striped bed scarf or local artwork on the wall.

Breakfast: Fresh fruit and more fresh fruit. The papaya is divine. Freshly squeezed fruit juices and great coffee if you feel you need it, although given the pace of life here on Isla Holbox, you might not. And as a snack, the guacamole and nachos. They are out of this world and be warned, you’ll never want to eat guacamole anywhere else.

Where to practice yoga: On the rooftop terrace early morning or evening when the sun is not at its strongest, or on the shade of your bedroom balcony. The Amaité Hotel and Spa just next door has a wooden-framed yoga shala right on the beach and runs daily yoga classes. It’s perched up high above the beach restaurant, so you have a spectacular bird’s-eye view of the turquoise blue sea as you practice.

Unique WP factor: The balcony or in-room hammocks. The sink and shower taps in the bathrooms, where water flows not from metal taps, but enormous shells.
